Re: SBJ: Saints fans rank 25/31 Author: Frank Serpas III Date: 1999/02/01 Forum: alt.sports.football.pro.no-saints The 25-Jan-99 issue of Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal ranks Saints fans 25th among the 31 NFL teams (the Browns are included). Fans were ranked for their performance over the past decade on the basis of... support- quantified by attendance (yearly average; as a % of stadium capacity; best-year to worst-year fluctuation) difficulty- quantified by winning %; stadium capacity normalized to metro area population; average ticket price normalized to metro area per capita income; average high temperature in stadium during December The formula used can be criticized, but it's a good attempt at objectively gauging fan loyalty. Our score would've jumped significantly if it had been based on our whole team history- the previous two decades were characterized by a much lower winning %, plus we would've received a somewhat better score in the December temperature department due to Tulane Stadium's influence (domed stadiums are assigned a temperature of 72 degrees F). The Packers came out #1, followed closely by the Browns. The Broncos ranked #4, the Falcons #29. The Tennessee Oilers (their time in Houston wasn't counted) came in last by a large margin. ******************************************************************************* Frank Serpas III serpas@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu ............................................................................... >>>>>>>SAINTERNET- http://ccwf.cc.utexas.edu/~serpas/saints.html
