In my first year as a Cub Scout, I won first place in the Pinewood Derby with Red Flash, the car that I built with a lot of help from my Dad.
At a pack meeting the following year, the Cubmaster unexpectedly announced that he was stepping down and that a replacement was needed. My Dad volunteered to take on the leadership role, to ensure that I (and my brother and dozens of other members of Pack 710) would have a fulfilling Scouting experience.
