1990 was a good sports year for Georgia Tech: the men's basketball team went to the Final Four and the Jackets had a national championship season in football (Colorado can take their 5th down and their phantom Orange Bowl clipping penalty and go stifle themselves).
In addition, that year Atlanta was awarded the Games of the XXVI Olympiad, upsetting Athens' bid to host the Centennial Olympics. Six years later (and 21 years ago this week), Tech became the Olympic Village and hosted venues for boxing and swimming & diving.
