On Sunday, David Letterman was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. I was a loyal viewer throughout his Late Show years on CBS, but I got hooked on Dave during his innovative Late Night years on NBC; I never wanted to miss an episode.
During college, my Letterman imperative earned me a Chris Elliott-esque nickname: "The Guy In The TV Lounge." I couldn't pick up the NBC affiliate over-the-air in my dorm room, and I didn't have cable (and viewing shows online on-demand was a futuristic fantasy). So, every evening during prime time I camped out in the communal dorm TV lounge, to ensure that I could control what station the set was tuned to.
